About the Position
The Global Trade and Anti-corruption Strategist will be responsible for
oversight of two key areas for HP Legal - Global Trade and Anti-corruption. To
ensure visibility to the highest levels of management, this role will report to
the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer.
Global Trade:
Ensure worldwide compliance by HP and its employees with applicable import
and export laws and regulations with all countries in which we do business and
to protect the trading privileges that HP currently enjoys. In addition, this
role will require review and augmentation of processes to ensure that HP does
not conduct business transactions with an unacceptable risk of diversion. Such
risks include exporting or re-exporting to embargoed and sanctioned countries,
an individual or company on the Government Restricted Parties List, or
proliferation activities. In this substantive area, the successful candidate
will work closely with another experienced global trade attorney.
Anti-corruption:
Ensure worldwide compliance by HP and its employees with anti-corruption
laws and regulations as well as ensuring HP conducts business in all cultures
and countries with trust, respect and integrity. In addition, this role will
require review and augmentation of policies and tools that provide guidance to
employees on how they can assure compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices
Act (FCPA) and other laws and regulations around the world designed to combat
bribery.
Specifically, the primary responsibilities of the Global Trade and
Anti-corruption Strategist fall into the following three categories:
Training and Education
The Global Trade and Anti-corruption Strategist will develop, initiate,
maintain and revise policies and procedures for the general operation of HP's
Global Trade and Anti-corruption programs and their related activities to
prevent illegal, unethical or improper conduct. The Global Trade and
Anti-corruption Strategist will institute and maintain effective compliance
training and education programs for HP, including promoting (a) heightened
awareness of the applicable laws and regulations referred to in HP's Corporate
Policies and (b) understanding of new and existing Global Trade and
Anti-corruption issues and related policies and procedures.
The Global Trade and Anti-corruption Strategist will be responsible for
working with other functions as appropriate to develop effective Global Trade
and Anti-corruption training programs, including appropriate introductory
training for new employees as well as ongoing training for all employees and
managers.
Risk Assessment and Response Management
The Global Trade and Anti-corruption Strategist, working with the HP
Compliance Office and the appropriate compliance functions, will be responsible
for tracking legal issues, conducting risk assessments, and providing response
management in these two substantive areas. In addition, the Global Trade and
Anti-corruption Strategist will have responsibility for establishing metrics and
reporting progress against metrics to appropriate management teams and the Board
of Directors.
The Global Trade and Anti-corruption Strategist will identify potential
areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, develop/ implement corrective action
plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provide general guidance on how
to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future. The Global Trade and
Anti-corruption Strategist will act as an independent reviewer and evaluator to
ensure that compliance issues within HP are being appropriately evaluated,
investigated and resolved. In addition, the Global Trade and Anti-corruption
Strategist, working with others in the Legal Department, global functions and
the businesses, will ensure proper reporting of violations or potential
violations to duly authorized enforcement agencies as appropriate and/or
required.
Hewlett-Packard Company is seeking a Global Trade and Anti-Corruption
Strategist to join the Legal Department, preferably at our offices in Palo Alto,
California; Plano, Texas; Houston, Texas; or Murray Hill, New Jersey, although
telecommuting may be an option.
