Iraq’s parliamentary integrity committee pointed out on Wednesday to administrative corruption in the expenditure mechanism of development budgets in certain Iraqi provinces
The Integrity Commission is investigating these cases along with other administrative corruption issues at Iraq’s Defence and Interior ministries. “The Committee is probing into administrative corruption in the expenditure mechanism of development budgets in certain Iraqi provinces including Baghdad and Karbala”, the parliamentary integrity committee member Aliya Nassif told Alsumarianews. “There are other corruption cases at Defence and Interior ministries regarding contracts that were not subject to restrictions upon which the contracts law was brought forward, on account of the exceptional circumstances in Iraq”, Nassif explained. “Inspectors of the Defence and Interior ministries will be summoned next week to discuss the ministries’ files mainly that half of the State’s budget back then was spent on the Defence and Interior ministries”, she added. Iraq’s parliamentary integrity committee announced early this month that it will refer to the Integrity Commission three corruption files concerning explosives detection devices, the construction of Sheala and Sadr cities and the Canadian planes issue. The files include more than 9000 documents that confirm the implication of ministers, deputy minsters, general directress and officers in corruption. Deputy Interior Minister Adnan Al Asadi revealed on March 31 that the ministry has files that prove the implication of Interior Ministry officers and general directors in corruption during the term of former Interior Minister Jawad Al Boulani. Al Asadi pointed out also to files reporting that a number of border officials have sold border passages to tribes and neighbouring countries which has led to a major violation at these passages. |
